Via ferrata Hohe Wand in Austria - What Will You Experience?

Via Ferrata in the Alps are among the most famous and diverse in the world. In Austria it is located more than 550 via ferrata, it is one of the most popular destinations for via ferrata climbing in Europe. Most of them are situated in various mountainous areas, especially in the Alps. The Austrian Alps offer a wide range of via ferratas, from easy routes for beginners to extremely challenging and technical routes for experienced climbers.

Ferrata Gebirgsvereins - Hohe Wand (Viennese Alps)

The Gebirgsvereins Ferrata leads to the Hohe Wand ridge and offers magnificent views, including a view of the HubertusHaus lodge and the shorter Steirerspur ferrata. We would classify it as category C/D, meaning it is a moderately difficult ferrata. The route is varied, with beautiful airy sections and attractions such as a rope bridge and a ladder.

The via ferrata was opened in May 2013, so some parts already have worn rocks, requiring increased attention. In some sections, the via ferrata is secured with new ropes and also offers several places to rest. The Steirerspur via ferrata, originally built for training purposes in 2004, has been extended with beautiful sections, so it would be a shame not to do it on the descent.

What does the Hohe Wand experience in Austria include?

The course includes:

• Group Via Ferrata course (for 1 or 2 people), which will provide you with the theoretical and practical parts, including demonstrations of techniques and belaying.
• Rental of complete Via Ferrata equipment (helmet, harness, energy absorber, chest harness, carabiners).
• Instructor: Certified mountaineering instructor SHS JAMES – rock climbing and Via Ferrata, with many years of experience
• PHOTOS AND VIDEO FROM THE WORKSHOPS & COURSES (usually within 5 working days via a download link)
• Duration: 6- 8 hrs (duration depends on the performance and experience of the participants and the current conditions on the Via Ferrata)

The course is ideal for beginners and slightly advanced climbers from 8 years old with average fitness (capable of a 6-hour ascent). The climb will take place on Via Ferrata with difficulty levels B – C/D (D). There are 5 to 7 people + an instructor in the group.

Important information about the Hohe Wand via ferrata experience in Austria:

	Sezóna/Počasie	The experience can be realised from Monday to Sunday between 01/05/2027 and 31/10/2027 - depending on availability and weather. In the event of adverse weather, it is up to the provider (instructor) to decide and evaluate whether to move the reservation to a new date.
	Clothing	For the course, bring sportswear, sturdy shoes (not sneakers), a light waterproof jacket and a backpack (10-35 l), food and drink and a change of clothes.
	Podmienky	The course is open to people from 8 years of age with the consent and accompaniment of a legal guardian (written consent from a legal guardian is required for those under 18, and the service provider must be informed of the participation of a minor in advance). The experience takes place on pre-determined dates according to the provider's available capacity. Booking a date outside of the provided terms is possible provided there are at least 4 people and an agreement is reached with the provider. The final duration of the experience depends on the specific Via Ferrata, as well as the performance and experience of the participants and other climbers in the area. Final confirmation of the date is provided at least 2 days (48 hours) before the event, depending on the weather and current conditions. Cancellation policy: 0% cancellation fee if cancelled up to 24 hours before the experience, 100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 24 hours before the experience.
