Ski Touring Course For Beginners In Donovaly - What Does It Include?

Are you a beginner and want to learn how to ski tour correctly? We have a solution for you!

Experience a group ski touring course for beginner ski tourers directly in the heart of Slovakia at the Park Snow Donovaly resort. We will teach you the basics of ski mountaineering and ski touring (including the basics of off-piste descent) along with analysis and recommendations for improvement. The course is suitable for an intermediate downhill skier who can confidently ski a blue slope and safely ski a red slope. Previous ski touring / ski mountaineering experience is not required. Fitness is required to complete an ascent of approx. 500-800 vertical meters – we will go at a relaxed pace with breaks, no racing.

Course programme:

• explanation and check of equipment and its setting
• explanation of differences in the choice of skis, ski boots, skins, bindings, poles
• technique of uphill ascent and climbing towards the summit of Nová Hoľa
• during the break on the ascent, explanation of terrain / weather reading and forecast
• ascent to the Zvolen summit, explanation of the descent route along with off-piste skiing techniques.
• descent combining ski slope – off-piste to the parking lot
• feedback on skiing and technique improvement
• summary and conclusion of the course

Equipment needed to complete the course:

• Ski touring set, required: own skis, ski boots, skins, bindings, poles (rental can be recommended upon agreement, or arranged if sets are available). An avalanche safety set is not required (this is not an Avalanche Safety Course).

ATTENTION:

The voucher price does not include:

• Individual insurance. For your safety, we recommend taking out insurance – insurance to cover the costs of potential mountain rescue intervention (standard insurance approx. €2 – 4 / day / person).
• Ski mountaineering set rental

Important information about the ski mountaineering course for beginner ski mountaineers:

	Sezóna/Počasie	The experience is possible to complete on pre-determined dates (Monday to Sunday) in the period from 1. 12. 2025 to 30. 04. 2026 (inclusive). In the event of adverse weather, it is up to the provider (instructor) to decide and evaluate whether to move the reservation to a new date. In the event of lack of snow cover as in the 2024/2025 season , the course will be moved to another location (usually Chopok South Srdiečko - access from Brezno).
	Clothing	Our Picks: dress in three layers, including a waterproof jacket and trousers. Depending on the weather, you can add a warm jacket (coordinate with the instructor). Don't forget 2 pairs of gloves, sunglasses and ski goggles, a headlamp, a helmet (rental available), and a hiking backpack. In your backpack pack at least 1 litre of tea in a thermos and food for the entire course.
	Podmienky	The course can be taken by people from the age of 6 with the consent and accompanied by a legal guardian (under 18 years of age, written consent from a legal guardian is required and the service provider must be informed in advance about the participation of a minor. For groups, dates are by agreement with the service provider. Booking is recommended at least 2 weeks in advance. Cancellation policy: 0% cancellation fee if cancelled up to 24 hours before the experience, 100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 24 hours before the experience.
