Ski Touring & Avalanche Safety Course for Intermediate - What to Expect?

Experience a group Ski Touring & Avalanche Safety Course right in the field at Krížna, just 15 km from Banská Bystrica! Master the techniques of ski touring, avalanche safety, backcountry skiing under the guidance of experienced instructors and learn how to enjoy a safe mountain tour! The course is suitable for an advanced skier who can confidently ski down a red piste and safely ski down a black piste.Previous experience with ski touring is welcome, but not necessary. Our Picks: know your avalanche gear, at least based on the attached instructions. Fitness is required to master an ascent of approximately 1000 vertical meters (equivalent to ascending Chopok from Lúčky). This is free terrain, which corresponds to the slope of a ski run at the level of a red piste.

Course programme:

• Explanation and check of equipment
• Moving to the area for practicing terrain search
• Explanation of avalanche equipment and its use
• Demonstration of searching, group search, solo search
• Ascent technique and ascent to the very summit of Krížna
• explanation of skiing techniques in open terrain and skiing down to the place where the snow profile was dug

Equipment needed to complete the course:

• Ski mountaineering set – skis, ski boots, belts, bindings, poles (rental company can be recommended by arrangement, or provided if sets are available).

• Avalanche set – searchlight, probe, shovel (rental company can be recommended upon agreement, or provided if sets are available).

The voucher price does not include:

• Individual insurance. For your safety, we recommend taking out insurance – insurance to cover the costs of potential mountain rescue intervention (standard insurance approx. €2 – 4 / day / person).

Important information about the ski alpine course for intermediates:

	Sezóna/Počasie	The experience is possible to complete on pre-determined dates (Monday to Sunday) in the period from 1 December 2025 to 30 April 2026 (inclusive). In the event of adverse weather, it is up to the provider (instructor) to decide and evaluate whether to move the reservation to a new date. In the event of a lack of snow cover as in the 2024/2025 season , the course is moved to another location (usually Ďumbier Juh Trangoška – access from Brezno / Žiarska dolina / Štrbské pleso – Patria).
	Clothing	Our Picks: dress in three layers, including a waterproof jacket and trousers. Depending on the weather, you can add a warm jacket (coordinate with the instructor). Don't forget 2 pairs of gloves, sunglasses and ski goggles, a headlamp, a helmet (rental available), and a hiking backpack. In your backpack pack at least 1 litre of tea in a thermos and food for the entire course.
	Podmienky	Suitable for physically fit individuals from 6 years old withwith the consent and in the company of a legal guardian (written consent from a legal guardian is required for those under 18) and the provider must be informed in advance about the participation of a minor. For groups, dates are by agreement with the service provider. Booking is recommended at least 2 weeks in advance. Cancellation policy: 0% cancellation fee if cancelled up to 24 hours before the experience, 100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 24 hours before the experience.
