The traditional scythe is a tool used for hundreds of years, technically perfected. A quality scythe with a perfectly forged blade is, in the hands of a skilled mower, a tool that works with ease, effectively, and quickly.

Unlike industrially produced lawnmowers, working with a scythe requires craftsmanship and mastery of the scything technique. In the past, this knowledge was passed down from father to son, and there was no need to write down instructions. However, today in many places this chain has been broken, and beginner mowers often have no one to gain this knowledge from.

The Scything workshop is designed for everyone who wants to learn to scythe with ease, effectively, and without much effort. At the same time, they will try it in a fun way by scything in a group. The workshop also includes an introduction to forging.

What does the Scything workshop include?

In our workshop, we will teach you to scythe with ease, using a technique that is gentle on your body. You will learn everything about the correct adjustment of the scythe and snath, how not to cut yourself while sharpening with a whetstone, how to scythe around obstacles, and how to care for your scythe so that it serves you for many years. You will also learn the basics of forging. Besides learning, you will also have fun scything in a group, surrounded by the beautiful nature of northern Podpoľanie or Nitra.

Workshop Goals:

• Learn the correct adjustment of the scythe and snath and safe handling of the scythe.
• Master a body-friendly scything technique.
• Be able to scythe in various situations (e.g., around trees, fences, ditches).
• Understand the basic principles of scythe forging.

The course includes:

• Loan of a quality scythe and snath from the Austrian manufacturer SCHRÖCKENFUX.
• Instructor services.
